Therapeutic Foster Care/Life Skills Training Building

A vital part of the state’s vision for “non-residential” care is the therapeutic foster care model.  We re-entered statewide foster care in late 2015 as the largest provider of services at the time with plans for Methodist Foster Care to increase its capacity to 500 foster families.   To address the difficulty of recruiting and training therapeutic foster parents, the Southeast campus is ideally located to serve as the regional hub of Methodist Foster Care.

Another key part of the overall care of foster children is preparing them for independent living as young adults.

Many of the children who “age out” of foster care find themselves floundering, living on the streets, ending up in jail or just disappearing into the world of crime, homelessness or human trafficking.

We will offer hands-on training for older youth and young adults in the region as well as training for our staff serving in other regions.

Experiential Therapy

What was initially an extraordinary gift of 1700 acres of undeveloped forested land in the piney hills of North Louisiana has become an unexpected but critical part of the healing process for many of the children in our care.  More than simply a recreational area where children can play and enjoy nature, the
Outdoor Wilderness Learning Center offers them the opportunity to regain some of the innocence that has been taken away from them. Open to the public by appointment, the Center also offers the same transformational experiences to thousands of local children, families and groups.

Our goal is to duplicate the best parts of this experiential therapy program on the same campus as the new children’s home and foster care/life skills training building.
